Module 'Occupational Therapy for Elderly'Occupational Therapist 2014/2015
21 ECTS Objectives: 1 To provide basic knowledge about the aging process, about the role of elderly in society and the aspects of occupational therapy in the improvement of life quality of the elderly; 2 to discuss activities of daily living, social problems and legislation in Estonia, also the geriatric diseases and the occupational performance problems related to pathological aging. Having passed the module, the student: 1 is able to apply the conceptual models of occupational therapy into practical work with elderly; 2 is able to prevent and solve problems in daily activities of the elderly by taking into consideration the lifestyle changes that accompany aging; 3 is able to carry out occupational therapy interventions with preventing purposes, improving in this way the life quality of the elderly; 4 has knowledge about the most widely spread geriatric diseases (including dementia) and psycho-geriatric disorders, and about the problems with occupational performance related to pathological aging; 5 understands the meaning of death in life process and the possibilities of palliative care. | ||
