Curriculum: General Nurse 2019/2020



Module Description
Basic Studies
Basic Studies 1. Is familiar with the development of human organism, its structure and functions and regulating physiological and pathological processes, as well as the concerned main terminology in Estonian and in Latin.
2. Is able to explain the physiological processes in the human organism deriving from the physical and biological processes in the organism.
3. Is able to explain the pathological processes in the organism caused by the activity of micro-organisms.
Personal and Professional Development of a Nurse 1. Knows how to use learning methods, targeting and planning her or his own learning and is be able to analyse her or his learning skills and values lifelong learning.
2. Knows the basic principles of functioning of the educational, social and health organizations in Estonia and Europe.
3. Knows work safety regulations.
4. Knows how to give first aid.
5. Is able to use the knowledge about management and entrepreneurship when performing nursing activities.
6. Is able to apply teamwork and project work principles with a goal of maintaining and improving people’s health.
Foundations of Nursing 1. Knows the main principles of nursing, basics of nursing philosophy and main nursing theories.
2. Knows the nurse’s role in health care and society.
3. Is able to implement multi-disciplinary process-based nursing care based on nursing theory and nursing ethics.
Clinical Nursing 1. Is able to implement process-based patient-centred teaching techniques for the provision of nursing care based on NNN taxonomy.
2. Knows the patient/client investigation methods implemented on clinical nursing and is able to prepare patients for these.
3. Values the principles of teamwork and works together with health care professionals from other fields.
4. Knows the limits of liability related to the nursing profession and critically evaluates his/her performance.
Children´s Nursing 1. Is able to evaluate child’s stature and developmend and factors affecting them.
2. Is able to implement process-based patient/client-centred nursing care to a child and his/her family based on NNN taxonomy and different principles of teamwork.
3. Is able to teach and motivate a child and his/her parents in maintaining health, preventing diseases and managing with a disease.
Intensive Nursing 1. Knows the main terminology of intensive care, emergency medicine and war and disaster medicine, their fields of action and priorities of performing nursing care, also the methods of dealing with major accidents.
2. Is able to implement process-based patient/client-centred nursing care on a patient in critical condition and council his/her family based on NNN taxonomy and valid guidelines.
3. Knows how to perform intesive care nursing activities.
4. Knows the priorities for assistance of victims and nursing needs, principles and methodology for carrying out triage based on the victims' individual needs.
Health Nursing 1. Knows the main terminology of health nursing, field of work and work management.
2. Is able to implement process-based patient/client-centred independent nursing care in primary level health care to patients/clients of all ages based on the NNN taxonomy.
3. Is able to analyse the results of the nursing care performed.
4. Is able to use the necessary e-health programs and info-technological tools in his or her work.
5. Is able to formulate public health problems and find health promotion based solutions.
6. Is able to evaluate living, working and learning environment and make suggestions to make health-related improvements to the environment.
7. Is able to counsell people of all age groups in promoting their health, preventing diseases and maintaining health.
Mental Health Nursing 1. Knows problems associated with the mental health of children, adolescents, adult and elderly, factors affecting their mental health and possibilities of prevention.
2. Is able to implement process-based patient/client nursing care to mental health patients and their family based on NNN taxonomy.
3. Knows different methods of psychotherapy and is aware of the nurse’s role and responsibility in implementing the therapeutic processes into practice.
Research Methodology 1. Can find and use reliable evidence-based scientific sources for the professional research.
2. Can analyse and report information found from different sources.
3. Knows foundations of statistics, can methodically collect data and analyse them properly.
4. Knows ethics in research and can follow this.
5. Can set professional problems, and based on the research, give recommendations for solving them.
