Aim

The objective of study programme is to train specialists with applied higher education who know
about medications, other medical and health products, and the producing of medication, i.e
pharmacists whose knowledge and skills enable them to work in pharmacies, medication wholesale
companies and in other businesses dealing with medications, medical and health products.

Conditions for completion of the curriculum

Volume of speciality subjects: 120 ECTS
Volume of basic subjects: 45 ECTS
Volume of practical training: 38 ECTS (21% from study programme volume)
Volume of final exam: 5 ECTS
Volume of elective subjects in study programme: 10 ECTS
Language of studies: Estonian
Other languages necessary for achieving learning outcomes: English, Russian
Volume of contact studies: not more than 50% from the total volume of theory studies in study
programme

Learning outcomes

1. Is familiar with medicines, their composition, and with the technologies of composing drugs according to formulas.
2. Is able to assess the quality of medicines organoleptically and by the use of routine physical and chemical methods.
3. Has the knowledge of effects, side-effects, and co-effects of medicines and herbs and knows how to use them to cure and prevent diseases.
4. Is competent for professional work in any area of pharmacy practice including order and receipt of medicines from their providers, making individual drugs by doctor´s prescriptions, and delivery of medicines to customers.
5. Is able to apply his/her expertise in advising on the use of medicines for treating health disorders and diseases.
6. Has a good command of up-to-date methods of communication and infotechnology needed for professional activities in a pharmacy and is able to use that knowledge in his/her practical work.
7. Is well informed about the critical issues of the present-day pharmacy and is able to express his/her considerations to improve practice and regulations of medicine delivery.
8. Is aware of the permanent need for his/her continuous professional improvement and continuous refreshment of his/her basic pharmaceutical knowledge in the light of the latest scientific achievements.
9. Is willing to initiate research projects, and possesses the skills necessary for project management and organisation of team co-operation.
10. Is able to explain, both verbally and in writing, pharmacy-related problems in Estonian and at least in one other language and has the courage to participate in the discussions on pharmacy carried out in these languages.
11. Participates actively in the civil life and shows tolerance towards different value estimates and attitudes.
