The expected fields of activity of the graduates

The expected fields of activity of the graduates of the basic nursing education curriculum are the positions requiring the competency of a general nurse in Estonia or in the European Union. Continuation of studies is possible on the specialized nursing education curriculum and/or on the Master's curriculum of nursing or other curricula of open Master's Studies.

Aim

To provide internationally recognized professional higher education for working in the area of health care and to resume specialty education and/or on the curricula of nursing or on other open curricula in the Master's Studies.

Conditions for completion of the curriculum

Study programme comprises speciality subjects (71 ECTS), basic subjects (30 ECTS), practice (89 ECTS), elective subjects (10 ECTS) and final paper/final exam (10 ECTS)

Learning outcomes

1.Has a systemic overview of nursing concepts, nursing theory, practical skills and ethical approaches to accept the variety of a patient`s/client`s and colleagues`values, and gives nursing care of high quality, is responsible for the decisions related to the regional work.
2.Applies process-based nursing care connecting the nursing theory and practice: collects information, assesses and analyses critically the need for nursing care in co-operation with the patient / client, plans the proper nursing care and evaluates its influence.
3.Evaluates the influence of nursing on the society with the purpose of health promotion in the community: instructs, teaches, guides, supports and encourages a person, family and community in maintaining their health and preventing diseases, recovering from diseases and restoring their wellbeing.
4.Communicates with patients /clients and their relatives and other members of the team proceeding from total human approach and multicultural society.
5.Knows the bases of management and enterprise, and is able to use the acquired knowledge and skills in the job.
6.Reads scientific literature in Estonian and English languages, notices current topics on nursing and is able to formulate them as the goals of research and development work, has a systemic overview of the major research methods used in nursing science, initiates and/or participates in research and development work.
7.Is able to use the knowledge of other vocations within the limits of the nurse`s competence when giving nursing care and involves representatives of other vocations in giving care and providing safety to a patient / client.
8.Knows the assumptions and opportunities of the lifelong learning and occupational development.

Study options

A student is required to choose one of at least two elective modules offered, which are related to the previously passed module of the curriculum and aims to deepen the knowledge and skill in the relevant area.

Admission

Secondary school leaving certificate, vocational secondary school leaving certificate, or a corresponding qualification.

Graduation conditions

Completion of the curricula in full and the graduation thesis defended for a positive grade.

Diploma of professional higher education.

Graduation document

Diploma of professional higher education with academic transcript and Diploma Supplement in English.
