The expected fields of activity of the graduates

Occupational therapist is a specialist of occupations and occupational performance with professional higher education, whose tasks are assessment of occupational performance, consulting and supervising of a person, and conducting occupational therapy intervention according to his occupational needs personnally or in groups. The graduate is prepared to work as an occupational therapist in health care, social or educational system, and as a private enterpreneur.

Aim

The aim of the study programme is to educate occupational therapists with professional higher education needed in health care, social care or educational institutions, to provide contemporary knowledge about society together with speciality studies, in order to enhance the growth of the students' professional identity and promote the graduates' managing in labour market.

Conditions for completion of the curriculum

Nominal duration of occupational therapy curriculum is 4 years and the capacity of studies is 240 ECTS. Studies are divided to contact study, independent work and practice.
The curriculum is composed based to the learning outcomes, that enables to assess development of the student during the study process and evaluate professional readiness. The study programme consists of 12 modules: Methodology of research and development, Professional development, Studies of human health, Theoretical foundations of occupational therapy, Basic competencies of occupational therapist, Occupational therapy for children and youth, Occupational therapy for adults, Occupational therapy for elderly, Prediploma practicing, Optional subjects, Elective subjects and Final thesis.

Learning outcomes

Having passed the occupational therapist study programme, the student:
1. has a systematic overview about the profession’s concepts, theoretical principles, about carrying out occupational therapy and applying the knowledge in practice;
2. has knowledge about the social conditions that influence human health, is able to participate in activities preventing and treating diseases, and in rehabilitation; is able to explain the connections between occupational performance, health and well-being;
3. regards tolerantly into the diversity of attitudes and values, and is able to value and respect individual differences, cultural beliefs, customs and their influence on activity and involvement;
4. commands communicational, customer service, managing and team work skills necessary for one’s work, and is rationally and motivatevely capable to include and influence others in relation to human occupations and occupational therapy;
5. has an overview about the basics of research and research methods in occupational therapy sphere, is able to understand, select and defend research paper, at the same time considering ethical aspects;
6. is able to actively search, evaluate critically and to use the evidence material and what has been learned in order to guarantee the modernity and suitability of occupational therapy process for the client;
7. is able to complement one’s knowledge and develop skills about human occupation/activity, and to apply these in occupational therapist’s practical work;
8. is able to recognize interdisciplinary associations in the application areas of different specialities in accordance with theories discussing activity and participation;
9. is able orally and in written form to explain occupational therapy related problems in study language and in English, and to participate in professional discussions.

Study options

In addition to compulsory subjects, students may choose elective subjects in the volume of 5 ECTS and optional subjects in the volume of 5 ECTS. These subjects support the achieving of the objectives in study programme aims and create opportunities to realize individual needs and intellectual interests of students. Optional subjects enable the student to
broaden one’s outlook in complementary health
care areas.

Secondary school leaving certificate, vocational secondary school leaving certificate, or a corresponding qualification.

Graduation conditions

Completing study programme in full volume and receiving a positive grade in defending final thesis.

Diploma of professional higher education with academic transcript and Diploma Supplement in English.
