Subject 'Normal labour and puerperium'Name in Estonian: Normaalne sünnitus ja puerpeerium
AimTo acquire knowledge and skills of physiological labour, the assistance during labour and delivery, puerperium, care for a newborn and breastfeeding.
Study outcome1. Describes the stages, concepts and criteria of physiological labour.
2. Demonstrates the process of fetal descent, biomechanisms and different ways to give birth in simulation environment. 3. Describes psychological and emotional well-being of a woman in childbirth, genetic mechanisms of labour pain, and methods to relieve pain during labour. 4. Demonstrates in simulation environment how to perform vaginal examination during labour and checking the cervix for dilation. 5. Knows how to develop a partogram and provide documentation of childbirth, has the knowledge of the methods of assessing fetal well- being. 6. Describes the ways of managing labour stages, post-natal physiology, the importance of skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding. 7. Names and demonstrates the criteria for initial assessment of a newborn baby, a newborn`s basic needs, and describes a newborn adapatation process. 8. Describes the needs of a woman after giving birth, her physical and emotional changes, the lactation process, and demonstrates in simulation environment the examination of a woman after giving birth.
