Subject 'Practice - Normal labour and puerperium'Name in Estonian: Praktika - Normaalne sünnitus ja puerpeerium
AimTo apply knowledge, skills and attitudes learned in theory to observing normal labour and puerperium and advising patient.
Study outcomeStudent:
1. Attends the normal labour practice with the supervision of mentor and lecturer, integrating theory and practice. 2. Collects anamnesis and assesses risks, performs an objective examination and documents data in patient history. 3. Advises the woman giving birth and her support person, considering their choices and creating a safe environment for the family. 4. Performs midwifery activities to the woman giving birth and/or foetus including cervical assessment, determining the position of the foetus, opening the water bag, putting scalp electroid, by applying the principles of teamwork. 5. Observes and evaluates the different stages of labour by assessing the nature and efficiency of uterus contractions and delivers births. 6. Evaluates condition of the newborn, performs midwifery activities to the newborn, supporting skin-to skin contact, early initiation of breastfeeding and creating a safe environment for the family. 7. Observes the postnatal period, evaluates the condition of the mother by using and/or performing various midwifery activities. 8. Advises and teaches the woman/family on self-care, observing newborn and supporting breastfeeding. 9. Fills the requirements set by EU directives on the practice of midwife and analyses practical situations related to normal labour and/or postnatal period.
