Subject 'Botany'Name in Estonian: Botaanika
AimTo provide students with the basic knowledge on the structure of plants and their functions in order to pass specialty subjects related to medicinal plants (pharmacognosy, phytotherapy) and to understand the importance of plants in nature and human life.
Study outcomeUpon completion of the subject, the student:
1. Is familiar with the structure of plant cells, plant tissues and plant organs and of their functions in plants. 2. Is able to explain the specific nature of plant reproduction and their life cycle. 3. Has knowledge on the principles of plant classification. 4. Knows the richest in the species plant families and the most important plant species, cultivated plants and medicinal plants belonging to them. 5. Is familiar with the most important physiological processes in plants (photosynthesis, transpiration, mineral nutrition). Is taught in following curricula2016: F
