Aim

1. To provide knowledge on different over-the-counter medicines as well as skills to compare and recommend them. Topics include both, taking care of the general health of the people but also specific advice on how to improve one's health. Prerequisites to the subject are the following subjects: Pharmacology, Anatomy and Physiology.
2. To create an understanding on the diversity of options in choosing the pharmaceutical products as well as on their differences. Upon completion of the subject the student is familiar with the prescription medicines registered in the Republic of Estonia, is familiar with their active ingredients and is able to compare and evaluate the preparations offered by different manufacturers. Student is able to give adequate recommendations and make correct decisions to choose the product that is the most suitable for the client.

Study outcome

1. Knows and recognizes the groups of over-the-counter medicines (OTC medicines), health products and medical equipment used in the Republic of Estonia and is capable to consult customers in their usage.
2. Knows the prescription medicines registered in the Republic of Estonia, is familiar with their active ingredients and is capable to compare and evaluate the medical preparations offered by different manufacturers.
3. Is capable to recommend the pharmaceutical products deriving from the customer's needs.
