Objective
To provide knowledge of pharmacotherapy: the different drug groups, their effects on the body and their use in treating diseases.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the subject, the student:
1. Has knowledge of commonly used drug groups, their effects on the body and the factors influencing the effects of the drugs;
2. Has knowledge of indications and contraindications of the basic drug-groups sold over the counter;
3. Is able to explain the side effects and interactions of over the counter drugs;
4. Has a general knowledge of the diseases, for the treatment of which over the counter medicinal drug groups are used;
5. Is able to use the drug information sources: pharmacology reference books, manuals and Internet-based sources.
